LAURA'S ART ROOM
Main idea
The main idea for this project is to capture the social importance of music and how different people prefer different genres of music. I depict this through my art by painting the album cover of a different genre of music on each of the records. The first record I paint is the album cover Flower boy by the rap artist Tyler the creator and the album cover from the single north face by the soulful / r&b singer Odie. I found this interesting because they are very different artists in their style of music but yet there are similarities in the way they represent themselves.
Influences
My inspiration comes from the people and the producers behind the creation of the album covers such as Eric white, who is an American visual artist, based in New York City. and Odie himself. Since the album covers are photos or made using photoshop there aren't any art movements or influences from everyday life that I found inspiration in.

Artist statement
The main idea behind this project had always been the same from the start, it was to capture how important of different genres of music in society and how different people can appreciate the same genres of music and how music connects the whole world independent of where you live you can have the same music interests. From the beginning, I knew I wanted to do something music related but I wasn't quite sure if I wanted to use paint because painting isn't my strongest skill but this project is about experimenting so I decided to paint the albums on records instead of drawing them on construction paper.
I would say I did achieve my overall goal of this project but there are some things I wish I had incorporated /done better such as incorporating different mediums, more shading and a more lifelike representation of the people in the paintings but I also think I did a good job at getting the right shades of the different colours in the photos as well as the positioning of certain objects in the photos.
